Risen Grenadier Character Guide

Type: Infantry

Threat: High

What the Risen Grenadier Is

Shock troops grown into something more than human — bigger, multi-limbed, and carrying more grenades than any one body should hold. Grenadiers are the first infantry enemy that punishes passive play: they close distance fast, their hits dent your posture as much as your health, and their explosive attacks teach you that in Valor Mortis the dash is a positioning tool, not just a damage dodge.

The Bucket Weak Point

Every Grenadier wears a metal bucket helm, and the game tells you exactly how valuable it is: the Single Stroke achievement — held by 37.5% of players as of October 15, 2026 — is awarded for shooting the bucket clean off. A dislodged bucket exposes the head, which turns every later weak-point shot and headshot-streak attempt against Grenadiers from a gamble into a plan. Lead with a pistol or Blunderbuss shot at the helmet before the melee phase starts.

The bucket shot does not need a kill — it needs a hit. Fire once at the helmet as the fight opens, then switch to your melee weapon for the posture game.

How to Fight Them

Fight Grenadiers in the open. Their explosive attacks are strongest against you when you are near walls or other enemies — blast damage plus a follow-up swing is how they erase unspent Catalysts. Parry the limb swings you can read, dash the explosions you cannot, and spend the stagger window on the exposed head rather than the armored body.
