Volunteer Character Guide

Type: Brute

Threat: High

What the Volunteer Is

Large, armored brutes with powerful swings and — the part that matters — tough posture. Volunteers are the game's statement about posture damage as a resource: poking them with light hits takes forever, while a few well-read parries and heavy stance breaks move their stagger bar in visible jumps. Their swings hit like Sapeur axes with more armor on top.

How to Fight Them

Build the fight around posture. Parry what is readable, dash what is not, and spend every stagger window on the critical instead of chasing health damage. If your current weapon feels like it is bouncing off, that is the game telling you to upgrade — a weapon pushed toward its upgrade maximum converts Volunteer fights from a slog into a routine.

Volunteers often anchor mixed groups. Kill the fast escorts first — their interruptions are what make the Volunteer's slow, readable swings dangerous in the first place.

Why They Matter

Volunteers are rehearsal space for boss posture bars. The rhythm — read, break, execute, repeat without overextending — is exactly the loop that decides the Iron Marshall and everything after him.
